As the title states, what do you use to track your stats? Do you use a pre-made log book or just a little black notebook? What stats do you track?

Re: Anyone Use a Journal/Log Book?
I keep track of my stats on a spreadsheet, transfered from my scorecard when I get home.
Stats kept:
score
putts
putts per GIR
sand saves
up & downs
fairways hit
fairways missed left/right
GIR
penalty strokesU. S. Air Force, Retired

I have enough trouble as it is remembering what stroke I'm on WHILE I'm playing.

I mark my own on my own scorecard and put my GIR, fairways, putts and ob's in the following rows where normally you put the other golfers scores.Driver:Taylormade Burner 9.5 stiff
5 Wood: Taylormade R9 stiff

Re: Anyone Use a Journal/Log Book?
I built a simple XL spread sheet and I track FW, GIR, Putts, Score. My spread sheet calculates FW Hit percentage, GIR percentage, Avg Putts per hole, Avg score on Par 3's, 4's, 5's & 18 hole score.
I've only played 3 rounds since I built it, and a couple were my worst rounds of the year; 86, 93, 95.
For those 3 rounds, the spread sheet says I hit FWs 33%, GIR 17%, Putts 2.1 and Avg score = 93.
I am probably a pretty typical mid-hc player. When I miss the FW, it's usually not by much. Few lost balls. When I miss the green, it's usually not by much, but then I keep playing for par/bogey and not nearly enough birdie putts (at least in those 3 rounds).
I need to get back into the mid-low 80's, where I was consitently playing, then the numbers will improve.
I started out the year hitting the driver dead straight and hitting FW after FW, but the last week or so, the driver has been "crooked".
Every stat that I track WILL IMPROVE!Member Whitecourt Golf & Country Club

At the risk of being overly analytical, I track...

Rating
Slope
Score
ESC Score
H'cap Differential
Putts
Target Putts
Eagles
Birdies
Pars
Bogeys
Dbl Bogeys

Sand Tries

1-Putt
2-Putt
3-Putt
Green Fee
I keep a running average, and take a snapshot every 5 games, so I can see what my changes are in 5-game increments.
It takes me no time at all to make the extra entries I need on my scorecard hole by hole, and less than 2 minutes to enter the data in the spreadsheet.----

Re: Anyone Use a Journal/Log Book?
I have been entering numbers in my spread sheet, for a couple of weeks, and have now got 9 rounds of data. I am compiling very basic info; only FWs, GIR, Putts and Score, plus avg scores on par 3, 4 & 5s.
Here's my numbers so far:
Driving Accuracy: 29.0%
GIR: 22.8%
Putts/green: 1.7
Par 3: 4.0
Par 4: 4.8
Par 5: 5.7
18 Holes: 87
Today, my factor is 12.4 and course HC is 14.
Our course is fairly tight, with small greens. I don't lose many balls into the trees. Most of my misses are not too far off the fairway.
Even though our greens are small, my GIR sucks! I think I should hit 3/4s of the par 5s and the four par 3s give me basically 4 freebees to get GIRs, hitting from the tee. We've got a couple of par 3s that I am just hacking on; I cannot seem to hit them (this year). In years past I considered (and still do) those to be easy to hit. So I figure I should be hitting easy 7 greens, without the par 4s factored in.
Definitely a work in process! I need a lot of driving range work with the irons.
What really bugs me though, is how easily I swing on layup shots on the par 5s, and then I do the Charles Barkely thing, where if the same iron is required into a par 4 I seem to get a hitch in my swing and mis-hit the shot; thin, fat, blocked, pulled, shanked, I've got all those shots!
My putts/green number does not factor in putts/GIR, just total putts. The fact that I am at 1.7 is due to the fact that I chip just well enough to manage to one putt usually 4-6 greens. But those are usually only par or bogey saving putts. I am pretty sure if I tracked putts/GIR the number would be right at 2.0.
Not something I track but my sand game is woeful. Our bunkers are just terribly inconsistent. Some will have almost no sand, just a thin layer with hard pan underneath. Others will have deep, deep fluffy sand and then some are okay. Nice compact sand that the club will react predictably with. Anytime I get in the greenside bunker, I am in trouble!Member Whitecourt Golf & Country Club
