  • Divots flying into mouth/face/eyes

I was just wondering if anyone else has had this problem where after your swing, the divot flys up into your face/mouth/eyes. I've never had this problem while on the course, only on the driving range. Does that mean that the consistency of driving range turf is different from that of the fairways?

no, it probably means your range is facing east.

I have been thinking about this since you posted it, trying to figure it out.
      I give up.
Why would the range facing east cause the divots to fly up?

Direction of the prevailing winds? Although they are usually west to east. Your divot is going to go forward unless there is some wind blowing it back at you.

The wind was side on. It pretty much shot straight up from the ground into my face.

A hankerchief tied over the nose and mouth, sunglasses and a touque covering your head and ears........that should do it.

would the range not be facing west? if the winds are coming from the west they would be blowing west to east and hitting you?

Picture this: I'm having a horrendous round of golf. Really feeling down and irritated and cursing the Gods (why me?...stuff like that). I'm standing in the wrong fairway with a bunch of people watching. I pull out a 3w and take a John Daly "I've given up" type of swing at it and a chunk of mud zips up from the ground like a lightning bolt and smacks directly into my right eye and manages to stick there blinding me. I drop the club in stumbling shock and yell out WTF!!!!

No, I'm not messing with you guys on this one. God knows I try though.
The wind blows primarily east to west in the GTA corridor.

The Prevailing Winds are a global phenomena otherwise known as Trade winds.
