  • Golf Canada - How many rounds to get handicap index?

    Hi all,

A buddy has played a three rounds this season and entered them into Golf Canada, but still does not have a handicap index. I thought he only needed 3 x 18 rounds for a total of 54 holes. Is that not correct? How many more rounds does he need? We are thinking about entering in a tournament a few weeks from now so we want to make sure we can get enough rounds in for a handicap.

    Thanks,

If not mistaken it was 54 holes but that might have changed with some of the new rules

      Rules of Handicapping (title corrected)
      4.5 says:
To obtain an initial Handicap Index, a player must submit acceptable scores from a minimum of 54 holes.

Has your buddy checked with wherever he returned the scores or Golf Canada? How did he return the scores?

Putting isn't golf, greens should be treated almost the same as water hazards: you land on them, then add two strokes to your score.

Where and when did he play? Official handicap season in Ontario is Apr 15-Oct 31. Entering rounds played before or after for Ont courses don't count towards hcp.

Just to be clear, that is not a Rule of golf (you won't find it in the Rule book), but is part of the rules of handicapping (not to be confused with the Rules of golf).

Thank you, I didn't know that. He played a few rounds in early April.
