Turning Pro + caddie cut

Hi,

I was just wondering if anyone could clear up the famous phrase we all hear ever so often on the golf channel: "He turned pro this past summer".

How exactly do you "turn" pro. Who do you go see to turn pro. Do you just abandon your amateur status by telling your friends hey guys sorry i'm no longer an amateur. It's funny really that everybody talks about turning pro but no one really tells you how

Seccond question

As a caddie, how much do you think they get as a cut from the winning percentage? do they get a fixed salary regardeless of their player making the cut? Can anyone shed some light into this matter?

Well to go pro you need to "play in", which means getting your pga or cpga card. as for the caddie cut, thats a personal deal between caddie and player.

It's pretty simple to turn pro....Depends on which way you want to go. If you want to be a touring pro you go to qualifiers and check off the box that says play as a Pro not Amateur.

Or you can go the directions of CPGA...

Caddie thing is something you and your caddie have to work out.

most caddies get 8-10 percent for a win

5-7 percent top 10

percent for cut made

set amount for missed cut
usually around 1500 for the week

to turn pro just enter an event and mark pro when you register and your a pro

As mentioned, it's a pretty simple thing for most people. Not everybody has to have a press conference like Tiger did. When you notify a tournament you intend to play as a pro, that's it, you're a pro. You can then collect prize money and earn your touring card.

The only real significance to the switch is when you're younger. As a pro, you can no longer take part in Amateur events (like the US Amateur) or compete for a school (which is why Tiger had to leave Stanford). That's why most amateurs wait till after they earn their degree to declare themselves a pro. Some tournaments, notably the Masters, are also keen on having amateur players in the field and will only invite you as such. If you win the US Amateur, for example, you are only invited to the Masters if you keep your amateur status.
