  • How Often do you Replace your Irons & Driver?

Finally replaced my 11 year old Wilson Fat Shafts with Callaway XR irons. Replaced my 5 year old Nike driver with a new Cobra this year as well.

As a 15 handicap, I can't justify upgrading too often. I just don't think the technology changes enough each year to make a difference in my game.

How about you, how often do you you swap out your irons or your driver? Is it just to have the latest or do you think it makes a difference to your game to stay current.

Apologies if this topic has been covered recently.

I keep my gear usually around 5 seasons. And then pick stuff up on a cycle from the BST. This is the 1st year i've decided to get a fitting and will replace the set all at once. Hopefully l'll see the results of the fitting process. Just playing the waiting game now for the new sticks to arrive.

My Bridgestone J40 irons are 4 or 5 years old and still look new. Not going anywhere.

My current driver is a 2007 TM Burner which I am just killing.

My Yes putter is more than 12 years in the bag....never even taken out for a round.

The only newish clubs are my Scor wedges which have been in the bag for 2 seasons and a Callaway XR Hybrid I won at a tournament this summer....but I think my 2007 Wilson Fybrid was as good or better.

That said, I do have three new sets of irons in boxes....one set of Adams XTD Pros and 2 sets of Bridgestone J15MBs....one of these will become a backup set.

Interesting. Do you find subtle or dramatic differences between the different makes and models? For me, my swing is so inconsistent (chronic swayer) that I don't know if I could really tell, assuming that they are all high quality equipment.

                          Maybe the clubs aren't new.

The clubs are gone when the grooves are worn out or the love is gone, which isn't often.
This isn't a dress rehearsal. Enjoy yourself. There's no do-over.

Re: How Often do you Replace your Irons & Driver?

I used to upgrade (or downgrade????) my bag annually. Over the past few summers I haven't replaced much unless I came across something that I'd read was a performer and worked for me. My driver is the Titleist 910D2, and I have absolutely no reason or desire to change. It works for me. My irons were upgraded from Mizuno MX23 to Ping i25 this past spring. I'd have been perfectly fine playing the same irons but came across a ridiculous deal right here on TGN so I decided to pull the trigger. I can say going to the i25's was an upgrade as they are awesome, but the MX23's are legendary in terms of performance. I still have them and will keep them forever.

I'm the type of guy who looks for 'cult following' equipment.....or rather equipment that performed very well. My hybrids are TM RBZ Stage 2 and wedges are Cleveland CG12. In the past I've played the L4V and TM 200 Steel FW's much longer than anyone else.
