  • Fav new courses this yr

New courses for me are in order :
    1. Ridge at Manitou.
Only bad thing was my game that day.
    2. National Pines
    3. Fire Rock
    4. Parry Sound
    5. Seguin Valley
    6. Peterborough

What new courses have you played and rank them?

    Cobble Beach
    South Muskoka
    Seguin Valley
    Scarborough Golf and Country
    Devils Paintbrush
    Woodington Lake
    Vespra Hills

    My top 3 would be:
    1. Scarborough - perfect mix of classic tree lines holes and some more interesting blind shot etc holes, plus the clubhouse looks awesome
    2. Vespra Hills - 27 holes with something for everyone, can be incredibly challenging or just easy casual golf. Awesome views.
    3. South Muskoka - Loved the tree lined fairways, in great shape, shorter but risk reward available on almost every hole which makes it fun.

Really didn't care for the paintbrush, way too many blind tee shots for me to like and just generally a very punishing course. Hitting the green isn't always the best way of playing it...I mean how are you supposed to know the pace for a 7 foot uphill putt...vice versa. Cobble Beach, way overpriced for what it is...yea it has nice views but other than that it plays short and most obstacles on the course really do not pose much harm, but the view is nice I guess.

        1.Muskoka Bay/Summit - very different, both phenomenal
        2. Ridge at Mantiou - once of the most picturesque 18th holes you can play in the province
        3. The Rock - tough track, nothing particularly wow, but enjoyable none the less

Cobble Beach and Muskoka Bay were new for me this year. Both were great tracks to play and look forward to going back.

                  • Country Club East (first 3 holes before the downpour) Hope the other 15 are as good.
                  • Osprey Hoot
                  • Liking Healthlands as much as I did was a nice surprise given my dislike of links style.

Only 3 new courses this year.
                      1) Taboo - phenomenal condition in spite of all the rain leading up to the day of. Friendly staff, and a beautiful layout.
                      2) Trillium Wood - Fun layout, great condition (although the mosquitoes were relentless at times) and great value for the money
                      3) The Rock - Solid layout, and overall a fun but demanding course. Played on a discount, but otherwise would not drive that far to play at rack rate.

I started playing Maples of Ballantrae north of Stouffville this year because I needed to use a golf cart and they have good rates. The course is really well layed out with strategically placed bunkers, fairways that can add extra yardage when the ball lands on the downward slope, decently manicured greens, and forced carries over water. The rough is too penal in my opinion although the cost of course maintenance is probably to blame and overall, the staff are friendly and courteous.

Only played 2 new courses this year... Barrie Country Club and Wildfire. Really enjoyed Barrie as its a good old school course. Wildfire was fun, but did not play well that day, so hoping for another shot at it next year!
