  • First time I.....

I have been reading the blow-up, bad hole thread and thought we need to talk bout the good stuff. So submit your uplifting moments, the first time you broke 100, 90, 80, 70 - first hole in one - first tournament win -
I'll start with the first time I broke 80, it was a Bloomington Downs, not the greatest track but still a Par 72. I even Bogied the first hole, a short Par 5.
On 18, I needed a Bogey six to shoot 79. My third shot landed over the green, so now I need to chip and two putt but the golf gods smiled and I chipped it in for 77 !!
Take it one shot at a time

    Re: First time I.....

First time I ever put a club to a golf ball was at Lionhead Master. It was a week after I was told by my then-boss that I had to play golf at a corporate best ball tournament.

I went to the National Sports store out at Pickering to pick up a set of Accuform graphite-shafted irons. I also picked up a copy of Golf For Dummy by Gary McCord at Litchman.

When I showed up at the Lionhead range to warm up prior to the tourney, the Pro told me to just bring my 7 iron and leave everything else in the trunk after finding out that I never struck a golf ball in my life.

Later in the tournament, I made a double-breaking 45-foot putt for a birdie for the team using a Ping Anser putter.

    The rest is history....

First time I scored an eagle in Canada. I was playing with my GF's supervisor and we were on a long par 5 that has a bunker that sticks out on the right side in the landing area (I can't remember the hole number). I hit my drive and it headed directly for the right side of the bunker. The last time I saw it was when it bounced off the cart path right next to the bunker. After looking for a while, the group in front waved and pointed to a ball in the fairway. I drove up and saw it was mine, sitting right next to the 100 yard marker! SW to about 10 feet and sank the putt. I was a happy camper! Needless to say, her supervisor wasn't too thrilled since he had to buy dinner because I beat him by 1 stroke.

Just figured out it was the par 5 10th hole at Richmond Hill. We were playing the blue tees that day.

Not sure which thread this belongs in, it's a bit of both

This past weekend I reached a par 5 in 2 for the first time in my golfing 'career'. I was kinda nervous putting for my first eagle ever, but I gave myself lots of time to study the putt and I was pretty confident in my stroke. I missed the putt on the low-side by meer inches and then didn't take enough time on the birdie putt (i left a 3 footer or so) and 3-putted for par.

on one hand I was pretty happy with myself to have been in the position to make an eagle and then pretty upset that I 3-putted it. However, 3 putts for a par isn't bad either.

          Re: First time I.....

Ok so the same day as the bad that I posted:

I knew exactly where I stood in that tournament as the GLT has a score board you can normally see when you're making the turn. I see that I'm -1 and the club house lead is +4.

Knowing full well the back 9 is tougher than the front I set my mind to trying to make pars. Apparently my driver wasnt on the same page as it started hitting balls into penalty stroke places starting with #11.

          Anyhow, back to the good.

With 1 hole to play I know Im still tied for the lead. I've hit an appraoch shot dead on line that comes up about 40 feet short of the hole location. Now I know I've got 2 putts to tie and I know the few people watching in the "gallery".

I stroked the first putt up to about 3 feet short. With one putt left to tie and a crap scared thought in my stoopid head I managed to put that 3 footer dead in the centre.

            Re: First time I.....

I canned a 3 wood from the fairway at Kingsmill in Virginia on the 18th hole with a bunch of people watching from behind the green. When I got to the green they're all congratulating me on my eagle. Problem was, I was 3 off the tee and that was my par. Still a lot of fun though.

I drove a par 4 was at Streetsville Glen. Can't remember the hole number. The 40 foot eagle putt lipped out. I had my putter raised straight above my head and I dropped it when the putt lipped out. It made a gouge on the top of my head that dripped blood for the rest of the round.

Not nearly as interesting a thread as carnage, but hear goes:

My first eagle was the second at willow valley in a tournament a couple of years ago. Great drive left me 210 to the green center (pin front left). I hit my 5w to 6 feet. I was so nervous I could have crapped a diamond. I had to back off the putt because my hands we're shaking so badly. I stopped and imagined a beautiful bikini clad blond laying on the beach, walked up to the ball and drained it in the hole. Unfortunately the image of the blond was so strong I couldn't concentrate and made a blodddy mess of the next 6 holes.

                          Re: First time I.....

The first time I played golf. It was at Westview and my friend and I had just shot 70 for nine holes on the Homestead nine. On Lakeview, things got a little better and on the second Par 5, hole# 5 I believe. My tee shot landed just short of the first creek and my second landed in the fairway in front of the 2nd creek. My third shot was hit thin and was screaming over the green, hit a tree and bounced back onto the green about 10 feet away. I missed the birdie putt but tapped in for my first par. I've been hooked ever since.

                              Broke 90 (85 Angus Glen)

I shot an 85 at Angus Glen (south course) two weeks ago. Everything was working for me that day, Driver (220 yds avg) I'm not a long ball hitter. Irons were on, around the green was golden, and putts were dropping. My avg score is about 93-95. So shooting an 85 on the best course I've ever played was awsome .

Since then, it's been @ 103 at Bowmanville, and 93 @ Stone henge. Consistency isn't my strong point.
