  • Having trouble hitting from the top deck.

This may seem a little pathetic, but maybe someone has some advice for a problem I am having. I wouldn't say I am afraid of heights (I have been parasailing and gliding without too much fear), but I really have a problem hitting a golf shot from heights.

Let me clarify, if I am on the top decks at a range like the Docks. I don't quite know what is making me nervous, but for some reason I get this wierd feeling in my stomach, and have trouble making anything more then 3/4 swings. Does anyone else have this issue, or am I just totally screwed up.

Your fear is real, a strong gust of wind can potentially blow you off the deck.

You are not pathetic. A lot of people have fear of height in various degrees.

Just try to avoid the top deck moving forward.

Of course if you are a golf nut you would use that fear to practice focus and a pre shot routine to get through the fear. Then high tail it back to safety and start all over again.

            That's what I do.

Do you kneel to put the ball on the tee?

Re: Having trouble hitting from the top deck.

I'm not laughing at all. I totally get it. I have the same problem.
We have an unconcious fear of falling off on the through swing. Which means we can't get to our left side properly.

For some reason on a course from a high tee box I don't have that problem. Yet again the course isn't dumb enough to put the blocks as close to the edge of a cliff as some of these practice ranges.

I hit better when I'm on the upper deck because I'm afraid of falling over...it forces me to stay in balance more after the swing. AND I swing a bit slower haha

I'm not fond of upper decks myself. I never use it because the safety net in front of the mat doesn't look strong enough to support my 200lbs. This is not exactly inspiring.
