  • One of my best rounds with worst results

Played Islington today (4th or 5th time) and had a surreal round I left 14 shots on the course. Not talking the bad drive that results in a triple or the slice into the woods, just that almost every hole I had something happen.

The first by the green an easy chip left in the rough, 2 a three putt, 5 - 3 putt, 7 4' missed, 8 another 4', 10 a three putt and on and on and on...... Nothing fell, not a single break.....

But I hit the ball solid all day, a gorgeous sunny day and good company.

Anyone else ever have one of those days (or anything close to as bad as I experienced)?

Glad you had fun golfing instead of working. Focus on the positive things you did well and when you are at the range or practice session next time, ingrain/reinforce things that worked and work on the things that didn't go well.

Played Osler Brook for the first time, decided to play White as Slope 130 and course looked tight. After first hole, moved to the Blues at 138 and shot 39 Front, stopped for a Beer and shot 44 Back with one splasher

Wish I had focused as well, would have had my best round ever

yep, I often say the success of the round can't be measured by the scorecard, but rather how I hit the ball and how I enjoyed the round. Maybe it's a high capper thing, but some of my best rounds have been horrid on the scorecard.

Re: One of my best rounds with worst results

I played well yesterday at St Andrews Valley but didn't score well.
Probably had 4 very makeable birdies putts within 5-8 feet and missed all of them.
Hit every par 3 in regulation.
However, I did have some brain cramps...topped my second shot on 2...hit a shot fat on 9 on my approach to the green...resulted in bogeys on both holes.
Had three three putt greens resulting in bogeys.
On 18, and into a very stiff breeze my drive was relatively short. I was a good 230 out and instead of taking my medicine and laying up, I flare a 3 wood into the water. Take a penalty. Hit my 4th into the bunker. Skull it out. Chip on and 1 putt for a well deserved 7.

I was 42-41 from the Blues...round could easily have been in the 70's. But that's golf.

Re: One of my best rounds with worst results

That is the thing with Islington. I have always struck the ball pretty well there, the greens are very good, and ones I feel I can putt on and the length well in my comfort zone (even got out of the bunkers I was in). Yes I hit three bad drives (actually one I got a break on, the other two cost me penalty strokes and were the two I can't make a mistake on), but all others left me good shots into the green, which often I would just missed. And the two penalty strokes I am not even counting towards those 14 strokes!!!

I will bring that course to it's knees some day.....

In anycase as nice a day as Tuesday was, really can you complain?

BTW was with a major client and came back and completed a full day of work.

I played Lowville as a single yesterday. Around in 2 hours in a cart. Was graciously let through by 3 groups.

The good - every time I played through I was able to hit a good tee shot. I had several 1 putts. I hit GIR after missing FIR 2x.

The bad - I lost 6 balls! I had 3 3 putts. I put everything past the hole (too far past, like 8 feet!) when I missed the hole.

So, all in all, it was a good day, though much of it did not feel like it!
Still getting the hang of this game!

You seem to have a knack for always finding something to complain about.

I really don't understand why you play golf.

As usual you can't help yourself, can you? I laughed at my round and said what a great day I had and that all was wonderful. I used smilies too so the context could be understood. I just shrugged my shoulders and did not complain at all.....

I apologize for missing the ? after complain above, which I have now fixed.

Are you illiterate or just have to be an *** everytime I post?????

Lefty is absolutely right. "if I hadn't missed those 14 shots I would gave been better", no kidding. If my aunt had a c$&k she'd be my uncle. The point is you did miss those opportunities so move on. You seem to think you're owed something like if you hit the ball well you should be able to make the putts. What a got out of your post is you can't chip or putt very well if you missed all those chances. Get better. We've all had the good rounds that should have been better. Post on here when it all goes right because that's when it counts.

Everyone plays the game for their own reasons and I have mine. You guys truly are nuts (forget the pack mentality when I post too)..... I asked a question, laughed at my bad luck or lousy play around the green and then commented that Islington seems to have my #. How you & Lefty could find some way to jump on me and create a ruckus is beyond me..... But congratulations you were successful.....

Thanks, but I now will pass on the Summit golf day and the sure to be 5 hour round with other TGN'ers.

You need a thicker skin if you're going to play this game. All I was saying is that don't expect good scores if you hit the ball well, keep pushing and complete the process, not just good shots here and there. It bothers me that you have the mentality that you left shots out there when you're missing putts from inside 10 feet, that's golf. All the shots count. Obviously you didn't get that many bad breaks. Its not like the putts were for birdies if you were happy to get out of the bunker, and missed the green after good drives. Keep practicing and improve.
