That's not the worst of it.

I've seen some of the teacher's children, and they're wearing NEW clothes, not hand-me-downs. Even got shoes on their feet.

Not sure why the public should have to pay for all that!

outrageousto rub our noses like that. Where will their audacity end?
I understand the need for shoes if they push their mother's SUV through snowdrifts to make sure she get's to her classes.

          Reductio ad absurdum

I would have learned about that in school but Latin was no longer offered when I attended. I had to learn it on the streets.

Ok here is something a lot of you need to think about..... A daycare for your kid is what 200 plus a week? so 40 a day you are paying for someone to look after your kids not teach them... Daycares can have a max of 10-12 kids per person to look after them so 40x12=480 is what a daycare person makes in a day if at max. So 480x5= 2400 That's private sector. Now a teacher on avarage makes 1100 to 1300 a week before taxes and other deductions to "Teach" and look after 27-30 kids a day so thats 1300 div by 30 = 43.33 for your kid a week then
43.33 div by 5 = 8.67 a day Isvwhat you pay a teacher on ave to do their job per day for your kids .... Do you see a issue here?? But maybe we could turn this into the states and see how far we get then....

I guess daycare workers have free overhead like teachers?

I'll never understand why gross pay and net pay get compared.

Teacher don't have free over head??? Teacher pay for classes supply's , etc , etc.. Daycare works have tax write offs teacher don't, teacher can't claim anything on their taxes, daycares that are private owned can claim a percentage of their house, phone, car, insurance, etc etc. so overhead what they have is a place to go do i??? Like any other self employed "privatized" person .... and if you take your child to a daycare place then they have free over head too and that company claims everything...

And as your for your gross and net pay comparison that is the only way you can compare what peopl really make as every person gets different deductions takin off ..... That's why if you go for a loan they go with your gross pay not net... To see what you make in a year before tax.... That's why the government has you do your taxes with your gross income every year to see how much you should have paid in deductions.... Self employed are in gross so need to compare everyone as a gross paid employee

                  I'm sorry.

I did not realize that Ontario teachers paid for their classrooms. I didn't know they paid to rent the classroom, paid the hydro, paid the cleaning service etc. I'm not sure how I missed all that.

I also didn't realize that each teacher competed for their students like a daycare competes for its clients. Foolish of me.

I also forget how the banks love to give mortgages to those without a T4. All they care about is gross. Business owners rejoice. Profitability and margins don't matter. Don't worry if expenses exceed gross income.

Your math is all kinds of incorrect. Someone who runs an in-home day care can only accommodate 5 kids max as per regulations.

I remember starting grade 2 and grade 8 was full of 16 year old 'soon to be men' who were all over 6 ft. tall and strong as an oxe farm lads.

I have mixed feelings on failing.

It seems like the right thing to do though perhaps that's because it's the way it's always been.

But when I look back at kids in elementary school who were failed a grade and were now in my class or friends who were now a year behind --- it's not like they became rocket scientists the following year. They still had great difficulty with school.

So if they don't get it the first time --- they don't do an awful lot better their second year.

High schools now do anything they possibly can to enable kids to graduate. They can still fail courses but with all the things kids can do to make up tests/projects/assignments it sure takes a lot of work (no pun intended) to fail a course.
