    Re: What are you reading?

This is a good thread. I will look up some of the suggestions made by others.

I am always looking for new (to me) books and authors. I am a big fan of Jeffrey Archer and John Grisham. Although I have been stuck half way through Grisham's latest (The Litigators). I should probably ditch it and move on to something else. I am also reading "the Tiger that isnt" Its a book on how numbers are not interpreted correctly by the media and policy makers. It should be mandatory reading for everyone who has an opinion.

However, with my Ipad I tend to read magazines more than books.

Nothing beats reading a good novel before you go to bed in another hotel room. It helps me to disconnect from work.

Marcus was our motivational speaker at our sales kickoff earlier this year. His story he told was CRAZY, I couldn't imagine being in that situation. We all got a signed copy of his book, I've been meaning to start reading it.

About half way through it (got distracted by things such as golf). I'm interested in the psychology of decision-making, how experts are often wrong, pop economics, etc.
WITB: clubs, balls, tees, Advil and a candlestick (just in case)

I am also interested in that type of book. I suggest Thinking Strategically by Avinash Dixit. I first read the book when I graduated from business school in the Bush I era. Its one of the few books that I refer to on a regular basis.

Right now, REAMDE by Neal Stephenson. Like all his others, it's 1000 pages. He tells a great story, and this one his a significant Canadian connection.

For those of you who grew up in the 80's, with video arcades, action movies etc, a great read is Ready Player One by Ernest Cline. Fascinating theme and very well written.

I just got the audiobook version of this after hearing it recommended on a podcast I listen to. Will Wheaton narrates.

                            Re: What are you reading?

A few recent books I highly recommend:

Last Night in Twisted River - John Irving. Great storyteller and he's in fine form with this one. Like many of his books, it also has a Toronto connection.

Blackhawk Down - Mark Bowden. Movie is good but book is better. Couldn't put it down.

+1 to Stephenson's REAMDE. I liked Anathem more - once I finished it - but it's a long book with some pretty mind-bending ideas behind it.

Next up for me is Nate Silver's "The Signal and the Noise: Why So Many Predictions Fail - but Some Don't". Just waiting for it to free up in my local library.

                              "The Beautiful Mystery", louise penny
"the best laid plan", Terry fallis (romping good canadian political comedy)
"The passage", Justin cronin. ok but just sort of stops,
"Bubba Talks" Dan jenkins. He's funny but the book is a little short on content fort he price.

some sappy romance thing, 50 something.

Just saw on TV that the movie Lincoln was based on this book: Team of Rivals: The Political Genius of Abraham Lincoln by Doris Kearns Goodwin

Might pick this one up this weekend.
