  • Let the horse in

Very nice of Toronto to reinforce their stick in the mud reputation by barring the entry of a horse into the Royal York and locking and manning the doors w. security to prevent entry.

Seems very nanny statish. Lighten up and let the horse in.

I don't think "Toronto" makes the decision on who/what is allowed into the Royal York.

Not sure anyone outside of Toronto will care about that distinction. The decision was made in Toronto, by whom is less relevant. It is representative of "Toronto" to the rest of the country.

If I were a business owner , especially of a luxury hotel, do not think I would want a horse in my building.

Could be wrong but would this not violate some health or safety gudelines for hotels?

Hope you are joking about this one. The Royal York is rightly concerned about their foyer. My Dad was telling the story about the first time Calgary came to TO for the Cup and that happening. Said that was the time that the Grey Cup became an "event"

Why would one want to take their horse into a hotel? Are you the Godfather?

Oh please. You're saying because the Royal York wouldn't let a horse in their front door it's a blight on the citizens of Toronto and their nanny state?

Take the horse to the Airport Holiday Inn and see what happens....actually who cares if it's allowed in anywhere....IT'S A HORSE. It's meant to be housed in a stable not a hotel but maybe westerners still haven't evolved that far to know that.

                    Re: Let the horse in

Nope, not joking at all. Cannot understand why I can spend all day at the Royal Winter Fair surrounded by horses, cows, bulls, etc... with no protective barrier to preserve my "health and safety" but a 5 minute encounter with a single horse in a massive lobby is a threat.

Also, quite certain many guests of the Royal York routinely bring in dogs and other pets as guests in their rooms so the only distinction here is the type of animal allowed inside. If we all were getting sick or killed by being near a horse indoors (e.g. a barn) the human race would have died out long ago.

By all means, deny a bit of fun and enjoyment to Grey Cup revellers by seeing a threat to allowing a horse inside for likely no more than 5 minutes. And if the story dating back to 1948 happened in the Airport Holiday Inn then I would be referring to that hotel, but it didn't.

I guess by the replies posted, in my mind at least, the reputation for Toronto as a "stick in the mud" city seems well deserved. Am sure others will disagree.

Oh, so it happened in 1948 so it should be allowed now. Brilliant reasoning.

And equating horses to dogs and cats...LOL.

Dogs not same as horse, one is a small domesticated animal, one a stinky farm animal.

by your logic, they should allow pigs, skunks, rats and snakes as wellw

They wouldn't let any of you into the Royal York either if they were afraid you'd poop on the floor.
