No asterisk beside LeBron's championship last year either.
Has anyone heard if there is going to be any change to the rules regarding existing long term deals? It used to be if you signed a played to say a 10 year $100 million deal then the cap hit is $10m/season. However if that player retired for seasons 9 and 10 say, there was no cap hit to the team in those years. Teams structured deals where they would pay say $98 million to the player the first 8 years, yet only be charged $80 million against the cap, and then the last two the player would retired and lost only $2 million. There was a basically a wink wink deal that the player would never play these contracts out. There were rumors the new CBA was going to change that by forcing teams to take the cap hit even if a player retired.
Things i would rather do than watch NHL:
- have a root canal
- watch reruns of the lawrence welk show
- cut my toe nails
They have lost me and haven't offered anything to get me back. At least the last time there were rule changes that promised to open up the game and allow the skill to show.
I'm definitely glad it's over. I won't be buying any merchandise this year or buying any tickets. I will be going to independently owned pubs and bars to help these businesses recoup some of their lost revenue.

I have always been a huge NHL fan but after this I dont see myself having much interest any more.
Have always bought several pairs of seats for the Leafs each season but can say that I definitely will not be spending one penny on the NHL this season.
Will not renew NHL center ice again ever.
Will I watch it on tv? It's been a 45 year ritual to watch HNIC on saturday nights, so I suspect that once it's minus 20 in february, i will return to the couch. For now, saturday nites are family fun on the backyard rink

The most redeeming thing about ending the lockout is that we won't have to listen to panel after panel of hockey "experts" talking about how there is no hockey. The media treatment of the lockout, often running it as the top story, was pathetic.
Well said.
I wouldn't be surprised to see ratings and fan interest down even in Canada. Many people weren't mad, they lost interest, which is worse.
As far as an asterisk goes, there will not be any. They still have to win 4 playoff rounds; the Rangers won in the last shortened season, and until this lockout, the fact they won in a short season was forgotten.

I guess they could have just gone off air for 3 months.
For those saying they won't watch, this is m quick take on it.
The NHL puts out a product that I like and that I want to watch. I'm not going to punch myself in the nose just to piss off my face, and deprive myself of something I enjoy just to take some self-righteous stand against a corporation that owes me absolutely nothing.
...what he said....they really pi**ed me off in this one....forced me to follow my mooseheads a bit more and see how good other hockey can be...
That's like the hot girl in the office. She is hot because she is the best you have at the time. Sure she is good looking, but bring her to any other place and she is no longer the best option.
Fortunately for me, I never was a hockey fan.I cant understand how people could invest so much time , money and attention to these obvious spoiled brats. The only good news is hopefully I don't have to hear about this pissing contest any more during a time when the world has much bigger fish to fry.
When I am at Men's night I see lots of guys running to the table of an NHL member, and they kiss his rear end. I personally have other people in the world of fame and fortune to look up to.

Well said, today on TSN and Sportsnet is nuts talk, talk and more talk..

Drop the puck, lets get this going boys!!
They owe you everything. Without people watching, they don't make money, period.
I would rather see more people get involved with actually playing some form of sport/competition rather then spend money on professional sports.
