Afterthought: I wonder how I would be perceived by a jury if I said "I didn't recognize her as a member of my community, so I followed her so she couldn't get away, then she turned and hit me so I shot and killed her"

From reading your posts the last six months it's easy to see you're not stupid so I think you're able to understand the phrase "reasonable amount of force".

Had Martin just shoved Zim and was subsequently shot --- Zim would be easily guilty of not using a reasonable amount of force in regards to the threat he was faced with.

But with Martin on top and punching him...he has the right to defend himself. At what point was Martin going to stop? You're being punched....you don't know how many times or how long it's going to continue.

And in regards to your question regarding yelling at women.... Is that a crime? Disrespectful perhaps but what is illegal about doing it?

It depends on a lot of variables that you never mentioned in the scenario.

This is why I asked someone if they ever got in fights when they were younger. It amazes me that people seem to think that death is a necessary outcome of fights. Guys get beat up a hell of a lot worse than Zimmerman did without guns coming into play. And when people look at the damage and think it was a savage beating ... Hell, it wasn't nothing, but guys in serious fights get far more ****ed up than that.

Ok, I understand "reasonable amount of force." So lets say, hypothetically, that said girl tased me while I was stalking her, but I was still able to pull out my gun and shoot her. I mean, a taser has been known to kill, so I'm completely justified in taking out my gun and shooting the girl I was stalking, right?

Whose "stand your ground" rights take precedence?
SYG doesn't give you the right to use force against someone who pisses you off. THANK GOD!

Here are the instructions given to the jury:

If George Zimmerman was not engaged in an unlawful activity and was attacked in any
place where he had a right to be, he had no duty to retreat and had the right to stand his
ground and meet force with force, including deadly force if he reasonably believed that it was
necessary to do so to prevent death or great bodily harm to himself or another or to prevent the commission of a forcible felony.
The entire jury instructions are here:

                  Now you're being silly.

You wouldn't need a taser to justify it. Pepper spray would be grounds for killing her. Pepper spray can blind you.

I would suggest that guys carrying guns do not often get beat up much worse than George Zimmerman did.

Let's not make this any more confusing than it already is, apparently.

Yeah, it’s really a stretch to think someone’s carrying a gun at night in a crime ridden area in the U.S.

I have limited knowledge about tasters but my first instinct would be to say no, in that scenario you would have used excessive force.

I'm basing that opinion from watching guys getting tasered on COPS.

It would make for an interesting case though.

JDN actually instructed the jury to disregard his opinion testimony. It's kinda tough to un-ring that bell.

At least he's now told me what I can "legally" get away with when I'm walking home from the bars on Friday night.
