Chess players ?

Haven’t seen any threads on the subject and was wondering if any TGN’ers play any chess ?

I used to play regularly but not as much the past few years. Spent a lot of time going through games of former champions , Karpov, Tal and was always intrigued , like a lot of players , with Fischer, both at the board and away.

Big fan of gambit openings and the sicilian defense.

Used to, haven't with any consistency for 8 years except for the odd game here and there.

Back in the day (late 50's) we were taught Chess in school and had regular weekly class league games.
Played regularly with my boys when they were growing up, but they got tired of it.
Switched to Duplicate Bridge and played that regularly at clubs in TO and in tournaments around Ontario, when the No Smoking thing came in a lot of players quit. Now I'll mess with the occasional computer Chess and Bridge games and that's about it.

Used to play a bit when I was a young lad, dad always introduced us to varying activities , sports, exercise, music, reading, puzzles etc. to exercise the whole brain he said.

Have not played in a few years but will be getting an electronic chess game / partner for my son this Christmas

wouldn't mind seeing Speed Chess as a category at the Olympics.

don't think ADD chess at the Para-Olympics would be received that well though.

Was taught by my grandfather, who was a grand master. I was a decent player and would have no problem getting a game back in the 60s and 70s. However, everyone has their faces buried in their iPads these days. It's not a game you can just play every now and then. It requires great mental reflexes to be able to think and plot strategy four or five moves ahead. You quickly loose that ability over time. I know I have.....

Try playing candy crush saga on an IPad and see how much mental acuity that requires.

Don't have an IPad and wouldn't know how to use it as am just a simple 70s something technopeasant. I'll leave that one to you grasshoppers of this world.....!

I play chess, but am of the highest level of "Rookie-ness". My father taught me the basics and would play me every so often but once again, im pretty awful at the game.

I’m sure most of you guys seen this but a movie called, Searching for Bobby Fischer - a true story about an American prodigy Josh Waitzkin. Very good movie.
