That's a surprise ! I've never seen one picture with a Power Cable.
I thought it drew power from the USB.

Flat fee of $160, its self sustaining in terms of updates and he provided any tech support if needed

I have considered a Linux based tv box too.

I think the addons folks consider are Devilsports and Channel1. Those 2 give great access to various sports and movies etc.

I had some $ saved, but went with a new amp for my home theater instead.

Perhaps some Xmas $ will find budget for such a tv box, there are tons on Kijiji in many neighborhoods.
Still getting the hang of this game!

In the Ogio Atlas for riding or Ogio Vaporlite for carrying:

The Windows deployments of XBMC are just as good.
I have a linux XMBC, but I might migrate to a Windows 7 one.
Just looking at PVR options, etc.

(there's probably a video on YouTube about it)

                      Re: Google Chromecast

I bought one for each of my kids and another for my wife for when she travels. Ordered through Amazon and got next day delivery. Set-up with an iphone was very easy. I have an Apple TV at home and for a permanent home installation its better than Chromecast. However Chromecast has several advantages: cost is 60% less, it is smaller so easier to transport when you travel. It works with IOS and Android devices. Chromecast is essentailly the Airplay feature of the AppleTV. I am not sure if it can be plugged into a receiver - I do HDMI switching for my various components.

If you have a smart TV you don't need Chromecast. For $40 bucks a pop it is good value for my college age kids.

Received one yesterday - seems to work as advertised. Think they need to expand list of supported apps - pretty bare. Other than that works great.

Try these apps that work with Chromecast, may open up a few more possibilities:
