running out grounders is a complete measure of a players heart and desire to win, errors happen. What you are saying is the same as saying that backchecking is not a measure of a hockey players heart and desire to win. Ridiculous.

Yep. Looks like Dominican players don't care about winning....

Yes. More guys who pull obliques rounding first than hamstrings running down the line is what we need.

Well, Brett Lawrie strained his oblique rounding first base, but I'll assume your post was satire.

Can someone please provide a list of nationalities that lack the heart to play on championship teams? I think this would be valuable in assessing the offseason moves.

Like Russian hockey players, they can be key pieces in skill roles, but you cant let them dictate the culture or you're going nowhere.
Seems to me David Ortiz (Dominican) has dominated the culture in Boston's organization for several years, and they have three World Series rings to show for it.

Brett Lawrie's body is falling apart because he is giving everything he has to the game and the team, not because he cant get off his fat *** and work out, or because he's too busy contemplating his walk up music every day. I wonder what kid of honest opinion you'd get from George Brett or Pete Rose on Jose Reyes and EE and whether or not they are "winners" at heart.

Is Panama on the list? If I recall, they had a pretty good relief pitcher that won a few championships for the Yankees.

I don't follow hockey much anymore, but I would look at individual players, not their ethnicity. Ditto with baseball, and I think many teams and their fans would be happy to have players like Jose Bautista, Edwin Encarnacion, Robinson Cano, Adrian Beltre, or David Ortiz.

                              That does it. I'm sold.

Obviously, Jose Reyes is a big fatso and has no physique whatsoever.

EE ... of course, he's a lazy s.o.b. Never mind that when his career was in the pooper and the Jays actually let him go -- and no one wanted him -- he went down to the minors, busted his *** to improve, spent offseasons working with Robison Cano's coach in the Dominican to rebuild his swing, etc. Those are just smokescreens for his utter laziness. He's just not a Good Canadian Boy.

Canadians get hurt because they play too hard. Dominicans get hurt because they're lazy. This is an indisputable fact that I've now come to appreciate, thanks to the enlightenment in this thread.

I think this theory is solid as hell.

Now, a cynic would look at this and point out that players from every country get hurt now and then, with such things as pulled hamstrings, strained obliques, etc., and these silly cynics would wonder why when Edwin Encarnacion gets hurt we attribute it to his ethnic background and when Brett Lawrie gets hurt we don't, but these imbeciles are missing the key point that Dominicans are defined by their ethnicity and Canadians are just "people."

This has been quite a revelation. I am now going to go through the DL lists from the past five seasons to decide which players got hurt because they were lazy. It's going to be tough, because I don't think the injury reports mention nationalities, so I'll have to look up each player's nationality to determine if they were "lazy" or "Canadian/American."

That's tough to say. I'd have to find some injured Panamanians to know. The Panamanians I can think of off hand are Rivera and Bruce Chen. Rivera was always healthy, and I don't recall Chen missing much action, so Panama's looking good at the moment. Let's put them on our "okay" list for now.

Japan was on the "okay" list until Tanaka went down (obviously from laziness), so they've moved to the "maybe" list.

Brazil was "okay" until Yan Gomes went on the DL with a concussion, and since he's the only Brazilian player, we're going to have to rule out Brazilians as "soft-skulled." Now, don't play the Corey Koskie or Justin Morneau cards. I realize they're both Canadians who had severe concussions, but they suffered concussions due to playing too hard. You know, Lindros-like. See? Canucks are just good ol' boys playing too hard.

Dutch players have bad attitudes. They write nasty things on chalk boards about sinking ships. They're not good teammates. Just say no to the Dutch.

Australian pitchers give up too many home runs. Pass.

Cuban players write homophobic slurs on their eye patches. Also, they might be distracted if their family's boat sinks on the way to Key West. And then the Dutch players will get on their nerves with insensitive metaphors. Pass.

Venezuelans are good catchers, but fat. However, if they play a corner infield position they win triple crowns. They're a "maybe."

This is an incomplete list. I'm just at the beginning of my scientific analysis.
