If I was Nonis I would be putting Franson on the table, he's painful to watch in the defensive end and with his current offensive numbers might fetch a decent return.
Gardiner isn't worthless, 6'2 24 year old dmen who can skate like that are never going to be worthless.

Franson is a pending UFA, I don't see teams giving up much for 50 games of him.

Gardiner would be better off as a figure skater. He SUCKS at every other aspect of the game. By far the worst defenceman I've seen in a Leafs jersey. Heck bring back Cory Cross and Aki Berg and he'd still be the worst player on our team.

If only the team could do that AND win I'd be happy. I'm not expecting a cup every year, but some playoffs and a chance at the EC final.
Leafs have been playing this run and gun style really ever since Quinn took over. Personally I'm sick of it. I'll take a 2-1 win, thanks.

I'm just tired of being out shot by at least 10 every night. It's not entertaining to be pinned in your own zone for minutes at a time.

The big hope right now is Babcock coming in. If he comes in and this team still can't play a reasonable defensive game, then you KNOW it's not on the coach. I just have no idea how he'd co-exist with a guy like Kessel who is basically the franchise guy right now, so that's what worries me about Babcock wanting the job. There just aren't pieces here that fit with how he likes play.

Leafs are the highest scoring team in the entire NHL but yes also give up too many . Their goal differntial is the same as Montreal, better than the Islanders and Detroit.
Not counting games like last night where they were outplayed ( and teams do outplay other teams regularly so it happens all the time in the NHL) They rarely play a full game of hockey, last 2 games , 2 goal leads in both and lost. Reimer let in a few weak ones in Florida, but the team did not play well last night. All teams have ebbs and pushes in a game, when the Leafs have an ebb, it's for a long stretch.

Team seems to play better for Bernier , whether it's coincidence or more confidence, it appears that way to me.

Look on the bright side, the Leafs are still exceeding expectations of them ( expectations of rationale hockey people anyways) . They were considered to be a question mark for making the playoffs, and they are still hanging on the a playoff spot.

2 weeks ago , when knocking off teams every night, good teams like Anaheim etc, they were being discussed as a playoff team with a chance. Mind you Bernier played almost all those games.

They need to find a way to play better on the road

Watching the Leafs play is like watching me play 18. Some absolute gorgeous shots, with a whole lotta crap in between.

Were you in St.Louis wings in Burlington last night? Guy at the table beside me said the same thing.

If they brought back Marc Fraser he wouldn't be the worst.

Agree though that Gardiner is painful to watch.

Maybe turn him into a winger , it worked for Wendel.

                      C'mon.

Mark Fraser isn't even in the NHL. He plays limited minutes for Albany in the AHL. Jake Gardiner recently signed a $20m deal in the NHL. To think for a second that Fraser is a superior defenseman to Gardiner is laughable.

Perhaps I misunderstood...but there a those on here who would honestly think Fraser is an upgrade over Jake.

his hockey sense would be an upgrade over Gardiner's. His physical abilities on the other hand... Fraser moves like he has a fridge on his back.

In addition to low hockey IQ Gardiner is very light on his feet and too easy to move off the puck which doesn't work upfront or on defense. Something needs to change if he's going to play with the adults long term. Right now he looks like a lost kid out there.
