If that's what it takes to bring him here, make him GM/Coach, sign him for 5 years $50 million, and let's go!

Re: Toronto Maple Leafs 2014-15 THREAD
Listening to Phaneufs and Lupuls interviews today, man do I feel for these guys. I don't care how much they get paid, this City is hard on Hockey Players.
I for one, would like to see Lupul and Phaneuf back. Even Kessel.
I wonder what will happen to Hortons salary once the Leafs are no longer a cap team. Will it now count against the cap like it did for Columbus ?

I don't think anybody will be stepping into the coach or GM job here unless they have a big enuff ego to think they can play a major role in turning it around. And if they fail their consolation will be getting paid more here than anywhere else they would go.

money often talks but this will be a huge challenge IMO both on the management side and the player side. the house cleaning (and player cleansing to come) while the right thing is as much window dressing to help with this as it is due to incompetency, the one thing the Leafs are at the top of the NHL in almost every year.
of course an out of work coach will take job with even the worst of teams"Don't cry because it's over, Smile because it happened "

Re: Toronto Maple Leafs 2014-15 THREAD
Personally, I support what just happened and how Shanny addressed the issue with his conference. If he can execute his plan as well as he communicated it to the media/public, I'm sure that this off-season will be viewed as the turning point for the organization. Will be interesting to see what happens before the draft and in the coming months. What's in my bag?

Re: Toronto Maple Leafs 2014-15 THREAD
Just listened to Kipper, Millard and Cox discuss the firings and all feel that the Leafs might have a difficult time finding a GM to fit in .
They also said that should they find the "right" guy they need to give him a long term contract / keep him around, not 2,3,5 years like they did the past 3 GM's but something in the 10 plus which is whatbis needed for a complete turnaround to transpire . I Was surprised at that suggested tenure. They Used Rangers as an example and the 15 years of Sather to build the "best "team in the NHL this year?"Don't cry because it's over, Smile because it happened "

Re: Toronto Maple Leafs 2014-15 THREAD
Would have liked to have heard Shanahan, say a few nice words about Horachek, something like "appreciate his filling into a no win, tough position after Carlyle was let go".
Being a sacrificial lamb, really, that must have been pretty tough for the guy.
He had to ride out the storm. Apparently, he was one of few who was saying the right things about the direction of the team. I don't think he could be blamed for the horrible record while he was behind the bench.
If Shanahan had showed some class, in appreciating what this guy had to endure, I think the media guys would have patted him on the back for it.
It would have been a good start going forward.
