Recently, my 5 year old desktop (a Dell XPS 435mt) appeared to be giving up the ghost just as I was beginning to work on a time consuming and document rich matter. Needless to say I was concerned, since I was outside the warranty period. However, I had been helped before by the folks at Canada Computer in Newmarket, when I had video card problems. So, I went to them. The maintenance guys were unable to immediately help me as they were busy cleaning up after a computer fire! One of the salesmen, a more senior gentleman, was both willing and able to assist me.

After outlining the problem to the fellow (the computer was reluctant to start despite the fact that it seemed to be getting power), he first suggested that it might be an accumulation of dust in the machine, but a quick check ruled that out. Next he suggested that the power supply unit might be the problem. We ruled out a hard drive problem for the time being, because I wanted to explore the cheaper options first , and when it had started a few days previously, the hard drive worked fine.

At the employee's suggestion, I bought an inexpensive power supply unit for $42, which I could have returned if it didn't solve the problem. I installed it myself - I love getting under the hood. Much to my surprise the computer was revitalized. My computer is working as good as new!!! Total cost for the service advice: $0. My level of appreciation for the help: 12 out of 10.

This isn't a dress rehearsal. Enjoy yourself. There's no do-over.

Am head of a small company (40 employees). We buy desktops from Dell but other items have been acquired from a variety of suppliers. Our IT guy has had great experience with Canada Computers and we've migrated to them for the most part. He personally attends a location near his home and buys what we need. He recommends them to staff for personal needs. Seems to be a very good outfit overall.

I deal with CC all the time and find the service and products excellent. I have one word of warning for everyone though, if you buy something and find that you need to return it due to a change of mind or that it just doesn't suit your needs (not because it doesn't work) you will most likely be stuck with as much as a 20% restocking fee.

Don't take my word for it if you don't want, I personally have never had the issue as I have never had to take anything back. There are many posts about CC and the restocking fee on RFD (redflagdeals)

I just don't want anyone out of pocket without being warned. But if you know what parts you need go for it, I have spent thousands there on parts for myself, friends and family.

I've never bought a computer anywhere BUT Canada Computers

As for your issue, Power Supply is a Usual Suspect
Every great idea starts out as a blasphemy

I'm not in that business myself but as a small business owner I appreciate your efforts to tell other people about your positive experience with a company who cares.

Here here for Canada Computers. Switched from shopping at TigerDirect. Prices are cheaper and the service guys know their stuff. Hands down the best computer stores around. I do level 3 desktop support so I know computers and these guys I trust.

We should be as willing to highlight excellent service as we are are to shine the light of day on the bad actors.

CC comes a close second four me. I prefer NCIX for many computing needs.
