Thanks for your input. Bigger home run was ________?

It was a huge homer, regardless of whether or not it was a go ahead one or not. At this point in the season, everything is magnified.

      1) The concept floated of dropping Beuhrle from the playoff roster I believe is silly. He is a workhorse and has been on a WS winning team before. He needs to be on the roster.

      2) If any starter is left off it should be Hutchison

      3) Estrada has established himself in the past as a long reliever.

      4) Stroman, despite his amazing return, still is a raw, young player with very little experience.

I would put all 5 of Price, Stroman, Dickey, Beuhrle, Estrada on the roster. I pencil in Price, Stroman and Dickey as the first 3 starters. The fourth spot I like the choice of Estrada or Beuhrle based on match-ups or bringing back Price on short rest.

I would drop another reliever on the roster to make room to get all 5 of those starters on the team. One of them might only see duty in long relief in a blowout or high scoring game but could be asked to step up and start a big game.
This has been discussed endlessly on the Fan by every host of every show.

I don't think there's any answer that will keep everyone 100% happy. I love Beuhrle and all he's done for this team but I don't think he'll start a post season game. The ALDS is only 5 games so I think we'll see Price, Dickey, Stroman, Price, Dickey.

Who's to say if this is the best way to go or not, we'll have to see.

I like having Beuhrle for his experience, clam under pressure, fielding skill, lefty option to start if needed. He has proven more often than not he can go out and give you 6 - 7 innings with 2 - 4 runs. With the Jays offense that should give then an even or better shot to win or be close in the late part of any game. If he does throw in a stinker you have Estrada ready to come in for long relief and switch to a right hander. No one is being asked to do anything they have not done before.

In the playoffs you really only need 4. So Price, Stroman, Dickey, and Beuhrle (I completely agree with you on your Beuhrle comment) would be my 4 guys. Estrada has more than earned a spot IF Stroman wouldn't have returned and pitched so well upon his return. I think ME is destined for a long relief or really anywhere in the bullpen for a couple shutdown innings.

I like Beuhrle as well for his experience and what he has done, but agree with LG, that as it stands now, he is not in the post season starting rotation. ( but will be on the roster)

So much still needs to play out yet , that it is a bit premature , but certainly the heads in Jays land are formulating scenarios.

Here is one of what is sure to be many analyses.

For me, Beuhrle would be out and Estrada in. Beuhrle is a fierce competitor, but he's lost a significant amount of his velocity. As a result, he has been getting shelled. There is no reason to think that would improve in his post-season play. My rotation would consist of Price, Stromon, Dickey and Estrada.

So, have all the folks panic-driven because of one loss to the Yankees now stepped back from the ledge?

Haha it was a great one!

YES Network might be a homer network, but they're very very good IMO.

I thought Buck's call was homer-sim at its finest last night with respect to Martin's HR. "Get up! Get up! Get up!"

RE: The playoff roster. If we really mean "roster" and not "rotation," all five will be on the roster. The only "starter" I can see being left of the roster might be Hutchison, unless he figures out how to relieve in the next week and a half.

The guys I think are cinches for the playoff rotation are Price, Stroman, and Estrada. The Jays might play it by ear with Buehrle and Dickey. They might think one matches up better against an ALDS team (or ballpark) and use that pitcher as a starter, then the other in the ALCS. Or neither.

Buehrle's health is a question mark, though he does get to rest the arm a fair bit. He might be in the bullpen for the ALDS.

If the Jays use a fourth starter, I might go with Dickey because a) he's been giving us a lot of ace-like starts since mid-June, and b) I'd rather not use Dickey out of the bullpen as I think he needs his pre-game prep time to get the right feel for the knuckleball. I don't like the idea of rushing him into duty and having him throw a few tumblers.

Would recommend keeping Buerhle on the roster for 3 reasons:
                                1) His experience. He understands the pressures of the play-offs, how to prepare and how to react.
                                2) He throws with his left arm. The Jays will use Price like a rented mule. Run him out as often as possible. Cecil will hopefully keep performing as he has the past month. After that? Do you keep Loup or Francis ahead of Buehrle? Or Hutch who appears to be mentally fragile at the moment?
                                3) in case of injury, etc to another starter. Hope that it does not come to this, but just in case?
