You didn't debunk a single thing. You brought to the discussion one single isolated fact. I brought four. I win 4 to 1. No shoot out required.

Having thrown down the "you're better than that" gauntlet I expect better from you than one dimensional "bad guys on the left, good guys on the right" comments.

Trudeau senior: Disastrous for the economy, very good for the rights of Canadians.

Mulroney (Wilson): Good for the economy (via the necessary evil of raising taxes to reduce debt), eliminating the manufacturers tax and negotiating a free trade agreement. Sleazy ba$tard that took big bags of money under the table.

Chretien (Martin): good for the economy, eliminating deficits and paying down debt. Not so good for the economy by letting everything else slide and being unwilling to reign in the civil service.

Harper: A disaster for the people of Canada and bad for democracy ("you have to follow my rules, I'll do whatever the hell I want"). [Maybe] good for the economy by finally tackling the civil service, though I take some issue with his means. As with all large scale changes, it will take several years (yes Onin, its complicated) to properly assess the true impact both financially and in terms of loss of service.

So, Vermin dude. Its your turn. You got the balls to step our of your uni-dimensional world and have a real discussion about politics?

Trudeau - disaster in every way possible, War Powers act because a mailbox blew up, pals with Castro
Mulroney - nice voice and chin, taxed like a liberal
Chretien - embarrasment all around, Da proof is da proof and when you have a good proof then it is proven
Harper - best PM ever, proven by lefties calling him things like controlling, arrogant, , bad for democracy..... Hope he crushes Baby Trudeau

I didn't know the numbers Jeff, thanks. This is one of the things that I take issue with. Why would you spend six years expanding the civil service at a record pace only to turn around and let fly savagely with the ax? Its about the worst possible way to go about reducing size. The conservatives could have spent their entire term reducing by attrition and may well have been able to get to a better position without causing a lot of people pain.

So, more smoke and mirrors then.

FWIW, I work in an industry that is the master of driving efficiency. We have a team in our plant that is dedicated full time to improving efficiency and I can tell you it takes a lot of focused effort to do to.

Just randomly cutting 5 or 10% of your work force usually has the opposite effect of what is intended in that it is completely disruptive to processes and very bad for moral. Hack and slash usually costs you your more talented and dedicated people.

It is difficult to tell if the conservatives have truly brought our budget back into balance or not. Only time will tell. The civil service numbers you gave are not encouraging though.

I'd agree. The impact on people's lives (my wife saw this first hand), demoralization of the workforce, the costs of packages (they were VERY generous), lost productivity, downtime due to reassigning roles, tasks, etc., the overall cost of the various reorgs, its a massive cost. I have friends in senior positions that lost half their workforce.

Canadians should be thankful that we have a responsible federal government.
Harper is the envy of many on the world stage, just not on TGN.
