Recreational Fires???

Hey everyone,
I was wondering if there was anywhere one could go in Toronto or York Region where a recreational fire can be started? Can recreational fires only be made on private property?

Any info would be great. I just want to fire up some marshmellows, but dont want to do it in the yard for the reason that simply, its in the yard.

Jane/Finch area, recreational fires happen there all the time.

But bring a gun as marshmallows aren't welcome.

If memory serves me right, there used to be legal pits in the beaches. By law, I think a rec fire is also allowed in your backyard, as long as there's cooking involved.

Technically, open air fires are not allowed within city limits. Exceptions exist, such as the one about cooking, and if the fires are in confined spaces and are "small" (whatever that means).

They sell these things at Canadian Tire and other places, so you can have them in your yard.

I recomend you go camping somewhere far away from the city, and make yourself a huge bonfire. There is something to be said for experiencing this at least once in your life. It is even more fun when you are the one who made the fire.

Here is a wonderful tip to make a short lived but huge fire, take a big cardboard box (the bigger the better). Stand it on end and open the top, than light on fire, this is what we call a chimney, it will produce hugely tall flames, but you must be careful of the cardboard ash that will fly around.

I know this sounds like a bad idea, but camp fires and bonfires are fun. I have made some monsters. Growing up on an apple orchard we did have some huge brush fires when we cleared out trees and brush. I can't imagine that many of the TGN'ers would know how big a fire you can have with a heybail soaked in oil and gasoline. Yes I come from the country, and yes I did farmer stuff growing up

I to am a smal town boy and I"ve made alot of fires. So hear is somthing that I do at home around the fire with my kids [they love this].

Take some old garden hose and used or new 1/5" copper pipe' cut them into 1 foot pieces and slide the copper into the garden hose. Get a good fire going with a good bed of coals throw the hose with the pipe inside into the fire. This will change the colour the flames to green and blue and will last awile.


Nothing like a good summer fire with cold BEER!!!!!!!!

Thats right, pvc and copper. just keep away from the smoke because pvc is poison to breath in. chlorine gas. That being said, yeah I've done it.

You hit the nail on the head, nothing like a fire and some beer, anyone who hasn't experienced it is definately missing out on a simple joy of life

Since no one else has asked: Why on earth do you want to start an open fire in the Toronto area? You're just asking for trouble.

Like it was suggested, get yourself outside the city limits and go nuts. You're just asking for a fine, or worse doing it inside city limits...
