  • Superhero overkill?

Don't get me wrong. Since I was a kid I loved superheros. Comic books were a fave. But it seems to be going overboard. How many shows are there? Agents of Shield, Linda Carter, Flash, Arrow, Gotham (without the big guy), Supergirl, Legends of Tomorrow (or is yesterday?), and on and on. Then movies including reboots, and reboots of reboots. I find I can't keep up and more than that, no longer care to.

    Is it just me?

    Nope

Are we talking movies or tv?

I'm getting too old for all of this too. Why did they greenlight Agent Carter anyway? She has no powers and basically want to show an empowered female in the 40's.....

Frankly I miss the campy Batman with Adam West & Burt Ward......

in the dirty '30 they released Musicals to combat the same problems,- high unemployment, flat market.
As for Super Heroes, Hollywood should dig up FDR and clone him.

I think more that people can't come up with original stuff so they make money rehashing other peoples ideas.

You might not be the market for it.

They're throwing a lot at the wall to see what sticks, but enough movies are doing well and enough series are getting renewed that it seems they haven't hit the "overkill" level yet.

The only "superhero" show I watch is Jessica Jones, which is more of an anti-superhero show. The rest don't bother me -- there are plenty of viewing options so they're not getting in my way.

I've been sick of it for a long while. Even more sick of CG in movies. We are practically watching fancy cartoons now.

I can give you three reason.

                1. Story already told, marketed and successful. As comic books these stories and characters have already gone through the market and worked. The studios are just picking it up to use for their purposes now. Heck, they don't even have to do story boards anymore because the comic books are already there.

                2. The advancement of CG graphics and special effects. Remember all those corny 70's/80's attempt at superhero shows and movies? Pretty lame at the time. More believable with today's special effects really bringing the action/energy/visual the comic books presented.

                3. Power of DISNEY. The one market Disney had no hand in was the teen to young adult male audiences. Hence why they acquired Marvel Comics and Lucas Films. With that type of money power and their expertise in film and TV industry they pushed the envelop of this market through the roof. Warner Brothers (who owns DC comics) just follow suit.

Waiting for Disney to pick up Cialis. That will give them almost the entire range of demographics!

Shame on you. Lynda Carter was Wonder Woman. Peggy Carter is Marvel's Agent Carter .

I'd watch a real fire fighter show but there isn't a sleep over / cooking show channel yet!
