    Re: Formula 1 - 2016 Season

I'd love more F1 on this side of the pond but the Calender is pretty full already so what do they displace to fit it in? Season already runs March to November.

Also a side to TH3W, the Brazillian GP is also in our local time zone. For the other races I just set the PVR to record them and if I don't want to get up for 8 AM on a Sunday I watch the recording.

Watkins Glen, Road Atlanta, Mosport would be the logical choices. All would require extensive renovations ($$) to bring them up to current F1 standards which is one of the reasons they don't have more races over here. They require a generous benefactor and when people with that kind of money decide what sport they want to spend it on F1 is way down the list.

I always forget about Brazil because it's after Austin and in recent years the WDC has already been determined by that point. I may have picked a bad time to really try and get into F1, as I started paying more attention when Vettel was dominating a few years ago, and now it's the same thing but with Mercedes/Hamilton. It's really hard to get into a race when there's such a discrepancy between teams. Sometimes the mid-pack racing is more intense but they just don't show it enough because those aren't the "big names" in the sport. This is just my opinion as a casual observer.

I honestly think if there is going to be another race in Canada/USA it'll be because a new track is built. Those you listed are fairly established with the numerous racing series that are already here. I don't think they'd see the benefit in dropping large amounts of cash to accomodate one race weekend.

If they could sell NASCAR (roundy round, OMG it's raining) they should be able to sell F1.
Of course I'm convinced that the NASCAR fans only want to watch wrecks.
Need a few more American based teams, like Hass, to step in.

I'd like to see races in any one of these locations: Detroit, Watkins Glen, Sebring, Indianapolis or Laguna Seca

That will be a coveted seat for sure, my gut wants Alonso in that seat since that most likely won't happen my guess is that Pascal Wehrlein will get it.

Massa, Button and now Rosberg gone, that's a lot of veteran drivers leaving in one season.

And Greg Biffle lost his ride at Roush Racing.
                Maybe there's a connection?

Wow. But I guess when you've achieved your ultimate goal there is nothing left to prove.

Hate to see him go, but love to see the seats becoming available for younger drivers... it sucks to see great young drivers passed up by F1 simply because there aren't opportunities for them to drive.

I would think Wherein gets the seat...

Yep and all the other big names are already under contract with their teams for next season. Wehrlein is a free agent and is the most logical choice. He performed well with an inferior car this year and he has test-driven with Mercedes before.

As a bit of an afterthought can you imagine how devastating it would have been if Hamilton had his way and screwed him over?

Would much prefer to see an experienced #1 caliber driver in that seat. If the Merc is again ahead of the competition , Lewis will run away with the championship vs Wherlein. I would also love to see Alonso in that seat but there's no chance McHonda is going to let him break that contract with a new car coming next year and already a rookie in the second seat imo.

Nico is/was a class act in this sport.
I always admired Lewis' racing, but his diva personality has soured me towards me as of late...especially at Abu Dhabi.
Good for Nico..Enjoy your young life to the fullest!
I'd also love to see Alonso get the seat in that car and give it LH a little.
Like the NHL, F1 is becoming a young man's sport again.

So Williams are OK with letting Bottas go to Mercedes and Massa could return to Williams despite retiring at the end of the year.

Williams are prepared to release Valtteri Bottas to become Lewis Hamilton's Mercedes team-mate in 2017.
