That was a great kill. Wasn't sure why we didn't come out when it ended. Guess Babcock decided not to put anyone in the box to serve it.

That was a great kill. Wasn't sure why we didn't come out when it ended. Guess Babcock decided not to put anyone in the box to serve it.

Announcers made it sound like that was normal, but I don't ever remember seeing a penalty end and a team remain short-handed.

Something weird about that, and I don't understand why (if we knew about it) we'd choose to remain short for even one second longer than necessary.

Perhaps you should post in the Rules and Etiquette forum?

Babcock seemingly admitted to screwing up by not throwing someone in the box right away. Could have been costly. Glad it wasn't.

Apparently you don't have to put someone in the box right away. Babcock was going to put someone over there on the next whistle, but that whistle never came.

And you can't just throw someone on off your bench so they had to wait for the next whistle.

9th overall pick in 2009; he's not 'that old' and is a big defender. Is he 'that bad' that he can't be used by the Leafs or the Marlies? Or again, at the very least, trade for a pick?

Nathan Horton - apparently can't even get out of his car without some sort of back pain... At least from what I recall reading about him when we first made the Clarkson - Horton trade.

Solid win last night. They played a good game all around, what I saw was quite entertaining. Luckily Babcock's blunder didn't prove to be costly - great penalty killing though! Have to admit they boys are surprising me with their good play. I thought they would tail off at this part of the season.
Nylander has been playing great in the past several games; right now the Leafs have the 2nd, 3rd & 4th leading rookie scorers

A lot of years, Nylander would be getting some votes for the Calder.

We have an amazing crop of rookies that have put the Leafs rebuild way ahead of schedule.

Freddie was great again last night. Most nights he makes the big saves when needed that other Leafs goalies have not been able to make. You also don't see him let in many if any soft goals which has been a Leaf killer for years

Don't know why they wouldn't have just fired it in to the Columbus bench a little sooner.
Maybe just didn't have the chance?

True - when that turned out to be the play you wonder why it took so long.

Dunno the details of this rule, but couldn't they have iced it once the 5 minutes had expired?

I think they tried a couple of times but the goalie came out and negated the icing by playing the puck.

I didn't have high hopes for points out of this game but they continue to surprise me.

Seems when they have a bad game, the talk is "the kids have hit a wall" "Anderson is in uncharted territory, he's never played this many games".

But then they bounce back.

Well the coach overplayed his hand, but 'no harm, no foul'. Just goes to prove that he is not 'perfect'.

Aside from the rookies, probably the best evidence of his superior coaching skills is the transformation of Kadri into a '200 foot player'.

I keep seeing things about a potential Sens/Leafs playoff matchup. Both teams will probably be in bottom half (5-8 seeds) in the conference. Has the NHL gone away from the 1 vs 8, 2 vs 7, etc format?
