  • Electrical question

    Hi All Electrical Nuts,
I replaced 2 old flood lights with 2 motion sensor lights on the back corners of my eaves. There is a switch on the main floor and a switch upstairs that controlled the old lights.
Now when I try to switch the lights to manual (by flipping one switch off and on), one light stays on, but the other flashes at a consistent interval.
Each light only had 1-black and 1-white wire in the recessed box.
    Thanks.
    EMTEE

I would first check to see if the flashing light fixture is defective. Remove the bulbs or disconnect the working fixture and then test the second flashing fixture. If it is still flashing try swamping the fixtures and see the other works.

        No, they're halogen bulbs.

Ya i thought about this, but they were such a PITA to put up in the first place. 2nd storey and really recessed box after getting the soffits redone.

NM then I know when I replaced some lights with LED bulbs on a dimmer I had flickering. Called in an electrician and the problem was LED carry such a low load not enough current was moving. The solution was easy just higher watt LED bulbs.

Check the switch. If there are 3 blacks then you have two independent runs. If you only have two then there is a junction box somewhere where the runs to the lights are split. I would test the lights as indicated before. The other option is to ohm out the runs which will be a PITA.
