You can stream a lot of live tv from an android box with Kodi. Lots of sports and live shows, but usually not in HD. I did manage to find the Golf Channel in HD though. Lots of info the internet for how to do all this.
Below is a guide for installing the F4M Tester add-on for Kodi. This is a 3rd party add-on so please do not post questions about this add-on in the official Kodi forums.
How to Install F4M Tester on Kodi:
* Open Kodi
* Select Settings (cog icon top left)
* Select File Manager
Open Phoenix -> Phoenix Sports -> One Events - SPORTSNET HD - East or WEST is best choices.
An OTA HD antenna and an android box and you're set.
I still have basic cable for major next works on weekends for the golf but this last weekend I tested a cheap OTA antenna and got very good results. I'd like to have one professionally installed so that all the TVs have cable.
If you do an android box you can use a program called Ares Wizard which will install various different "builds" that include all the addons for sports. UKTV and Pheonix are both awesome and I've never had a problem with the GC HD feed...always works.
I switched from Rogers to Bell and saved $40 a month for better service.
I also bought a knockoff android box that has Kodi and so far it's sucked. Quality is choppy and stutters. I was able to stream live ESPN the other day so hopefully I can watch my FSU football games online. I used to always pay $40/month during football season for ncaa and NFL action.
Anyone have any suggestions for making Kodi work better. I know it's not the Internet connection.

Sometimes it's just bad feeds. I have great WiFi but still get the best results when wire the box direct.

Thanks, I tried using it thru One Events, but I need to figure out how to install that F4M Tester.

an i just buy an android box online or are they sold in stores? i have no idea of this stuff lol
I bought one on Amazon.ca ($60) ...figured if I didn't like it I could return it, but at $60 no big outlay either. You can also buy them for $100-$200 at Best Buy and places like that
I used to have choppy playback and studdering. I had an old router and upgraded to one with the AC wireless standard (mine is AC1900). The first box only had an N standard adapter and so I couldn't take advatange of the faster router (and so I use this one downstairs now wired to the router). The second box I got I made sure it had a AC adapter in it and now I can wirelessly stream upstairs 4K content without studdering or choppy playback.
So the moral of the story is hardware does play a pretty key role in the whole Kodi experience. If you cheap out of the box, it will likely disappoint you.
