I currently have Bell internet at work and have had continual issues with their service. I have regular dsl, nothing fancy. My issue seems to be that the service seems to drop in and out continually every few minutes. Not all the time, but at certain points in the day.

Currently I am listening to a you tube video which is running non stop, but I have another tab open and just about any site I try to open I get the loading swirl and eventually a message that the site is unavailable. If I click again and again within a minute or so the site will open. This will happen even if nothing else is open as well. I just find it strange that the video runs non stop, yet I can't seem to open another tab.

I spent a few weeks dealing with this exact issue about 3 or 4 months ago with Bell, and frustratingly eventually found someone who seemed to help me get it working properly. That lasted until a few weeks ago and now again a similar type problem. I now run Google Chrome as IE just does not work anymore and Firefox seems to have the same problem.

Just curious as to what options as to service providers that I can switch to. Rogers does not service my area and wonder if I am a prisoner of Bell lines no matter who I go with.

Are you sure it's a bell issue and not WIFI or beyond Bell?

          Re: internet options

On Sat.had two Bell guys in the lane way pulling fiber-optic cable across our backyard. We will now have fiber direct into the house instead to a node several blocks away. Bell is spending a billion dollars across southern Ontario to do this. I'm on a 25/5 plan, and it's great.

we were at one time considering another option to Bell, but after reviewing those like Start.ca , the reviews did not convince me.

maybe cheaper but they use bell`s network for dsl and rogers network for cable

so unless the issue is hardware, the OP will have the same issue with a third party reseller

Wonder if another box will help. You can also just restart the box and see if that will fix any problems. May need to do this every once in a while.

It is likely not your provider or hardware, more likely a software issue.

Open a command console and ping www.google.ca, or the specific website. I bet you have no problem communicating.

Safari hangs notoriously on my Mac, if it does I just start using Chrome.

I am hard wired into the modem. Seems to be working fine now. I am almost positive it is a Bell issue. (no rogers in this area).

If your present modem is connected to a typical phone jack with a microfilter attached forget it. Have a techie run a new wire from the outside box to supply the signal expressly/directly to the modem. That's what ours did, and the difference was immediately noticeable. Some don't want to because it's extra work and they are allowed only so much per installation.

If the symptom is that you are getting the "loading swirl", it's a problem local to your computer, not your internet provider.

Try TekSavvy the website is https://teksavvy.com/

They offer both cable and DSL internet options and their plans offer way cheaper speed and data options vs. both rogers and bell. In fact they still have unlimited plans.

We have been with them since 2011 for cable internet and have had ZERO issues/complaints.

Depending on what issues you are experiencing you may still experience since Rogers and Bell own the lines all 3rd parties use.

Also depending on where you live the options vary greatly. I.E in Stouffville the only DSL option is 6mpbs while if you were in Toronto it goes up to 50mbps.

TekSavvy provides broadband home internet packages across Canada. From cable to fibre to wi-fi, we believe in better choices and deals for internet services.
