I hate Labour charges !

Took my car for service and was quoted 2 hours Labour for the various items. In and out in 45 minutes, still charged for 2 hours despite my objections

Long story short - flat rate and all Dealers have the same practice

I once worked at a dealership. There would almost always be the favored mechanic that the service adviser would feed all the good jobs to. This favored mechanic could walk out with 80 hours pay for 40 hours worked. If the Chilton guide said 2 hours for a tune up and it took 30 minutes. You got charged 2 hours.
Some jobs take longer than the flat rate but the mechanic still only gets paid what Chilton says. I saw some mechanics make less than what they actually put in.

By the way, Guitarman is absolutely bang on. I have a buddy who routinely gets 80 hours pay per week. Plus does side jobs in his driveway.

I hate insurance charges, utilities, bank fees, taxes, etc. I guess everyone has to make a living.

I know a Lexus tech who banks 100 plus a week. Found a way to do a 13 hour job in 2 hours

I'm so thankful for my mechanic in Newmarket. He only charges for the time the job actually takes, and he and his guys don't dawdle.

With my wife being a new mechanic it's amazing how much money we have saved by her doing the work. I don't mind paying actual labour. I have an issue paying for "labour" you don't actually get. I generally have a distrust towards the auto industry.

Have absolutely no issue with being charged for the service or work provided. I have an issue when I feel I am over-charged.

Jim I assume the car is under warranty if you are at the dealer.

Else, go see Scott at SE Sales on Speers near 3rd line. Known him for 30+ years and bring all 3 of my cars to him. My whole family does too, for anything out of warranty.

The dealer should have held the car for the day so you felt better. Flat rate works both ways, and you were quoted up front.

No 3rd party avenue to file complaints about this type of unethical business practice Jim? I had to bring an issue to OMVIC against a Mercedes dealership a few years back about non-disclosure in a sale and won, does the same not exist for repairs?

That sucks. I get charged zero labour and 30% off parts. Had this deal for about 10 years now. I've had to use it only 3 times though.

I was quoted 10 hours of labour for a resent car issues. $8 bolt plus 10 hours of labour.

No thanks, I got my hands dirty instead. Nothing to loose with at that point, plus reaped the rewards of gained knowledge.
