When I posed the question they did not even know where the 'explosion' occurred, much less whether it was deliberate.

Police are treating it as a terrorist attack

No it was a big fire cracker.:

From some of the diagram it is where the arena connects with the train station next door. Possibly near the box office. So it is not really way outside whatever perimeter. You would just think there will be more cops to watch for suspicious activities.

In fairness to Benz when the story was first being reported they had no idea what the cause of the explosion was.

They still have not made any definitive statement as to the cause , only saying that terrorism is a possibility.

"England (CNN)At least 19 people are dead and about 50 injured in a possible terrorist incident Monday night at Manchester Arena in England."

That comment is really unnecessary given the tragedy unfolding.

Think about the logistics .......if going to a concert at the ACC, bags are only checked and scanners used as you enter the facility.

The TTC /Go/ Union station is right there connected to the ACC not far away, at any time there could be hundreds maybe even thousands of people walking about the area outside and near the entrance with bags , suitcases and briefcases etc.

The initial reports were that a loud noise caused a panic, and that the fatalities/injuries resulted from people being trampled. That may still be at least partially true.

So, as sarcastic as your comment seems now, and in the absence of evidence of explosives, a 'big firecracker' was a plausible explanation for what was known at the time.

Given UK have already got few attacks. They could have done something similar along the line of no large bags in certain area.

Perhaps but again logistically do you prevent bags from being carried anywhere large groups of people congregate ? That would include office buildings, schools, subways, buses, theatres, restaurants etc ......it's an impossible task .

We don't even know yet how large the device was and what It was in.

I think the issue is that the large area in question is shared by the arena and a train station. So.... no large bags outside a train station?

I'm pretty sure they know what they're doing over there, precisely because of the attacks they've had as well as their proximity to Paris and Brussels. They've also been doing this for decades because of the IRA.

Death toll have risen to 22.

Looking at all the faces of the victims and parents frantically looking for their kids through social media is just plain heartbreaking.

It is expected when politicians put their moral superiority as top priority above the safety of their constituents. Unfortunately, nothing will change.

I haven't seen pictures, but I can only imagine the pain of the parents.

Unfortunately, this will only change not only with a strong will of the politicians but also the people will need to make necessary changes. I doubt neither has the will to make the appropriate changes and we will continue to see these sad sights.
