  • what the heck were they thinking?

The marketing department of this company sure dropped the ball. What were they thinking?

CLOTHING giant H&M has been accused of racism over an advert showing a young black child modelling a hoodie bearing the words: “Coolest monkey in the jungle.” The advert shows the m…

I suspect this was an on-purpose ploy by H&M to stir up the free outrage advertising pot. Remember the pedophile inspired Calvin Kline ads from decades ago with a pubescent Brook Shield? Klein's ads continued to ripple the water when the teen boys showed up in their shorts
I expect there was/is a black girl in a Pink hoody with the "Jungle Bunny"logo waiting in the wings.

With so many people being involved in producing such an ad ( which had to include the model's agent and parents) i would say its either what bl8d says and a marketing ploy or that they really didnt think it to be racist - as the one comment said," its only racist if you want it to be"

      i'll go with door # 1

I think it is just a stupid shirt. But if it had been a white kid in it for the ad would anyone be crying racism? Probably not. Is this “inverse racism?” Making something racist because the subject is not white? Seems to me that it’s a growing trend kind of like Political Correctness morphed into everything being politically incorrect.

White people aren't routinely called monkey's in reference to their race though.

I wonder where the ad agency is from? H&M is european, I believe Sweedish.... I would like to give the benefit of the doubt and say "lost in translation" but then again they should have known better regardless.

Is it a twisted sinister plot to get more publicity, could be but the Sweeds are usually too polite for that.... but then again???? Who the heck knows?

Still a stupid shirt either way. Just saying that “racism” has gone the way of “politically correct” and that is over the top.

I agree for the most part. But this little ad campaign ad is a bit too obvious. How can anyone have thought it wouldn't raise a stir? So why antagonize the "politically correct".

The vast Majority don't care about this as much as you think . They care more about starving pets.
The "get me to the top of the pile" mantra still is," I don't care what they say, as long as it's about me".

Being racist and sexist in the same add would have made it too obviously deliberate.

All this unfortunate ad illustrates to me is that there were no black people involved in the process of making it.

While I usually think people go way overboard with calling something racist, or some other `ist`, or `ism` even I know that this T shirt was wrong. When I saw it I laughed that someone really missed the boat on it.

If the goal is to eliminate racism will this offensive ad one day become ok??

The mother of the child seems to think that day should be now.

"I really don't understand but not coz am choosing not to but because it's not my way of thinking, sorry.”"

"Am the mum and this is one of hundreds of outfits my son has modelled... Stop crying Wolf all the time, unnecessary issue here... Get over it,"
Over thinking, over analyzing separates the body from the mind.
