He was a staple on TV in the 70s and 80s. He died far too young…from the effects of Covid.

        How the years go by.

In 1977 while visiting my parents in VERO BEACH I rented a car and drove down to Miami to watch the Doral- Eastern open . During the drive I encountered heavy snowflakes which was very unusual in Florida in March [ or anytime ] . That was the first tournament that Andy Bean won - but all the newspapers could talk about was how Andy had wrestled an alligator. Actually he grabbed it by the tail and flipped it into the water. The day was totally overcast and I was amazed in the 8 or 10 hours that I was there that I got a fairly significant sunburn through the clouds . I also followed Billy Kratzert [ Golf Channel commentator ] for a few holes, he was playing badly and watched a couple of major temper displays by him.

Andy Bean - gone way too soon.
