Glad I was able to help. These kinds of winter conditions are not to everyone's liking.

Fortunately there are no rules limiting the number of golf balls you can carry during a match!

        Re: Courses open?

I can't even fathom playing in February, especially since we still have a lot of snow on the ground.

A friend went out to Tarandowah yesterday. Advised that conditions were surprisingly good and not as mushy as expected. A little bit of snow remains in some of the bunkers, but the rest of the course (including the greens) was totally playable.

Just got back from Banty Roost. Not bad, was even in a tshirt for a couple holes. Overall some very wet spots but back 9 (white course) was a lot drier. Tee to green was very playable, greens were umm lets just say we didn't keep score, just wet and lots of sand residue and unhealed aeration. Still nice to get out and see the ball flight.

              Re: Courses open?

The courses in SW Ontario are definitely dry.

They even opened up Firerock today.

A few courses were dry enough to even allow carts out.

                Re: Courses open?

Quiet night at work so I went and explored Annandale and Carruthers Creek. Annandale was WET and some spots still had standing water. Overall it wasn't too bad but Carruthers was certainly drier and looked to be in a bit better shape (par 3 course).

The upcoming rain should clear out all the snow at Stonehendge so I'm hoping for a mid-march opening there.

                    Re: Courses open?

Got email that Firerock would be open today for $28 walking.
Teed off shortly after noon. Mid round the sun came out, temp's climbed to 17 degrees. Course was in great shape, although greens were slow.

Going back along 401, temperature dropped 10 degrees from London to Woodstock.

Since last Saturday, have played Tarandowah, Pine Knot (3 times), Royal Niagara and Firerock.

Prior to this, had never played a February round in Ontario!

Feb 24 update---4 Seasons says conditions too wet to open. Sounds like the weekend is out.

                            Re: Courses open?

Stonehenge is trying to open... course just needs to dry out a hair more. He was looking at Sunday but perhaps Monday or Tuesday depending on rain. This cold snap kinda slowed the process down.

I walked the course and it looks great.

I guess I could have started a new thread but it`s basically on topic.

What`s the over/under on the date in which most courses in the GTA will open? I've heard some courses were looking at April 10th as the date when i was at the golf and travel show.

                                What's your best guess guys?
