Or the question. I haven't heard any audio (is there any?) -- I've only read the quote -- but I've been told that the question actually used the words "shaking in your boots" when Jose was asked if they were nervous about facing a pitcher they had no information on. It's actually a pretty tame response from Jose if that was the case.

But he's a smart guy -- he knows the media will take the sound bite and run with it, and I'm guessing he was okay with that. A little gamesmanship. It didn't work, but I don't think he regrets making the comment. I think he likes a little smack talk back and forth and might even be getting a kick out of some of the mockery.

They still have Gavin Floyd & Chris Colabello, right?

My replies are next to player but still in the quoted area.

The Jays need a few gritty tough out guys which I don't feel they have.

Would try to get Votto from Cinci.

            All just my $0.02

pretty much agree. For Pillar I doubt you would do better anywhere near that price and it frees up cash for a lot of other guys. We need more help in RF/LF than centre anyways

Agreed but his hitting at end was basically an auto out. He is a guy who I would love to have better plate discipline and become one of those tough outs...but I don't see it happening.

but he did hit .260-.280 the last 3 seasons

He's young and I'd expect him to get better at that.

Also mostly agree but here are Pillar's Stats. He already hits 260-280. I would like to see more walks from him

The problem is he needs to hit to get on base because he almost never walks. If he had better plate discipline, then his .260ish avg would be fine. But his career OBP is .303. At close to 1500 PAs, I'd be surprised if he gets much better. You can also put up with that more if the guys around him are capable. His D definitely gives him more leeway.

It is the 3 for 32 in playoffs that concerned me.

As a Blue Jay, he was better.

                            OPS: .760 vs .688
                            OPS+: 102 vs 85

If Pillar can become Devo offensively, that would be awesome. He's not that far off. Devo stole a lot more too though.

                              Was going to type same.

Devos numbers are over 17 years, and in both leagues . Pillar's less than 3 full seasons. I doubt KP plays 17 seasons and if so doubt he maintains his current numbers.

In his 5 years as a Jay , Devos numbers are much better than Pillars. Devo also averaged almost 15 HR a year in Toronto. KP half that.
Devo stole more and was as good if not better defensively , IMO

Both good CF, I'd take Devo every day over KP.

                                Good call by both

However when Toronto got Devo at the age of 28 he had already played 4 seasons as a regular in California (and 2 as a call-up) with a cumulative BA of .247 and an OBP of .295.

His last season at the age of 38 was actually his best for OBP.

So based on those numbers Pillar has an opportunity to be as good or better in those departments. And Devo was also a free swinger.

He did however have more power and better base stealing ability. And never seemed to have to dive for a ball in the outfield.
