This behaviour is not ideological. It's delusional.

Despite the rabid support Trump enjoys among some vocal elements of the GOP, I suspect many other GOP members will avoid supporting Trump-endorsed candidates. Many Republicans may be worried that too many far-right candidates will not do well in a general election, thus providing unexpected opportunities for Democrats. Look at what happened in the Senate run-offs in Georgia, and that was the day before the insurrection in Washington.

IMO, many people who voted for Trump in November would not vote for him again based on what he did in January. Further, Trump's behaviour since the election (especially in the aftermath of January 6th) will alienate many Independent voters. So, despite the high-profile supporters of Trump, it's very possible that many Republicans would prefer to see the Trump era fade into history.

Watched a documentary titled 'Hillbilly' on TVO last night. Directed by a woman from the Appalachia area of Kentucky. She interviewed members of her family as most supported Trump.

One gave his reason being that ''Trump is worth $10 billion. He is a successful businessman. So he knows how to make money and create jobs". The others agreed.

So they ignored/disregarded Trump's actual business record. And their reasoning demonstrates why Trump has fought so long and so hard to keep his tax records confidential.

The above is an example of how misinformation damages democracy.

I have been of this opinion since the beginning of Trump's campaign back in 2015.

        • The Cyber Ninjas were due to submit their report on the Maricopa County 2020 election audit today. However, purely by coincidence, the CEO and two others of the five-member panel tested positive for COVID and 'are quite sick'.

I am fairly certain that by the time these people are sufficiently recovered to submit their report, someone's dog will have eaten it...

It gets better than that. Turns out that today was the day that they were to deliver to the Republican committee who orchestrated the audit. Said committee will then 'verify' the report and that could take 'several weeks'.

To borrow a line: You can't make this stuff up folks.

            • Rigged election huh. A former Florida State senator is implicated in donating money to a ghost candidate to syphon votes from the Democratic candidates.

By all accounts this could change the outcome in several Senate districts!

One Republican Senator won by 36 votes where dark Republican money backed a NPA (no party affilliation) ghost candidate that supported democratic causes.

Funny how when charges finally get laid its Republicans not Democrats in the crosshairs. Maybe the GOP should try investigating themselves for election stealing tactics. They might have more success.

                    • I hope that everyone who tries to defend Trump reads the decision including the sentence below:
"And this case was never about fraud—it was about undermining the People’s faith in our democracy and debasing the judicial process to do so," she continued.

                      • Herschel Walker is running for the Senate out of Georgia. Trump is an avid supporter.

                        Thoughts?

From what I read some (many?) Republicans are not happy about this, in part because of some issues in his past.

                          • A carpetbagger from Texas with a record for domestic violence, who's never run for office previously, drops in to Georgia to save the day. I don't see this as a winning strategy for the Republicans, and neither do they. They're afraid that if Walker is their candidate, he might ensure a Democratic victory in that Senate race, jeapordizing their numberical advantage in that body.

                            • So, what would be the political implications for Trump of the following two scenarios:

                              1) Walker loses the GOP primary. How could this affect other endorsed by Trump in the 2022 mid-terms?

                              2) Walker wins the GOP primary, but loses the general election. How could this affect Trump endorsements for the 2024 elections?

                                No effect.

It just means that Walker was an unsuitable candidate. He was neither far enough to the right on the whach-job scale to get the Trumpistas out en mass, and he had too many flaws to keep Georgia republicans happy.

Georgia elections now come down to how many Dem voters go to, and can access the polls.
