That means since I taught high school law for 11 years, I could be Attorney-General.
Not to give too much credit to Dougie, but isn't that pretty normal?

Like when they have a cabinet shuffle and the Minister of Health becomes the Minister of Correctional Services or something?

Cabinet ministers don't need to be SMEs (Subject Matter Experts) they need to support the government's vision and direction and they need to know how to work the process to achieve those ends.

We have bureaucrats if we need to know about stuff.

Buck-a-beer and cut taxes. Heck we don't need no Solicitor-General for that. Wonder how many buck-a-beers you can buy for that salary?

I have not been able to find other reference here to the application by Canada Christian College to become a university. The Toronto Star indicates a decision on this by the Province is imminent.

Either way, Doug is not going to be looking good on this.

The provincial body considering whether to allow Canada Christian College to become a university will make its decision Tuesday.

The application for the college, led by socially conservative preacher Charles McVety — who has also landed in trouble for homophobic and Islamophobic comments — will be determined at a meeting that wraps up around 6 p.m.

Then, the recommendation by leaders of the Postsecondary Education Quality Assessment Board, or PEQAB, will be written up and communicated to the province’s Ministry of Colleges and Universities likely the next day, a spokesperson for the board said.

The issue has become a controversial one for the government — and in particular Premier

Doug Ford, who is friendly with McVety — after it took the unusual step of including the college’s bid for university status in a bill prior to PEQAB dealing with the application.

On Monday, Colleges and Universities Minister Ross Romano said he “certainly will be awaiting a response from PEQAB as most others are, but I can’t comment on exactly when, when I would be in a position to see that document.”

Speaking at an unrelated virtual press conference, Romano was asked if someone who has denigrated the LGBTQ community as well as Islam should be allowed to run a university.

“Any individual in this province has the right to put applications forward for designation system licences,” he replied. “And there is a process. The process has been going on now for a number of months. And I would ask everyone to not only respect the process, but trust the process … we will anxiously await the results of that.”

Canada Christian College and School of Graduate Theological Studies is asking permission to call itself “Canada University and School of Graduate Theological Studies” and offer bachelor of arts and science degrees.

In the legislature, New Democrat MPP Laura Mae Lindo, her party’s post-secondary critic, said “it’s troubling that this application has gotten this far.”

The Star’s Martin Regg Cohn previously revealed that McVety and his son Ryan were given six-figure loans from the school they run — owing the college, a registered charity, $860,000 by the end of 2019 — and how charitable funds were apparently used to buy jet skis and vehicles.

I must have been stricken with sudden colour blindness, I cannot see any blue squares on those calendars, but that cannot possibly be true, can it?

                  • Despite everyone being very happy about golf being back, Doug Ford is still a terrible leader and is detrimental to the future of the province.

                    • The Christian college run by a prominent ally of Premier Doug Ford, Charles McVety has been denied its application to become a university.

McVety is a staunch supporter of the premier and has been accused of espousing views that are homophobic, Islamophobic and transphobic.

The Ford government passed legislation last year that contained a provision that would fast-track the college’s university application, giving it the ability to grant university degrees in arts and sciences.

After receiving public backlash, the premier said the college would undergo an independent review before that portion of the bill could take effect.

McVety claims the review board presented a "fraudulent misrepresentation" of the school to the ministry which recommended denial of the application.

It's amazing that this application was well on it's way to being fast tracked into legislation, only because of McVety's personal relationship with Ford, before public backlash forced a review.

Another example of Ford cronyism at its best.

Maybe Ford was hoping for an Honorary Degree.

                        Poor Doug.

He needs something to put in the win column.

                            • This writer has zeroed in on Premier Doug Ford's fatal flaw. The Premier acts like an ill mannered toddlder. You shouldn't expect any analytical skills from one so young, nor should you expect patience, objectivity and thoughtfulness. Doug Ford demonstrated his immaturity during the latter stages of the pandemic, and he's done it again with respect to the readiness with which he resorted to the notwithstanding clause.

                              • It's astounding that he and his fellow Conservatives believe that the majority of the public will buy his shallow arguments in favour of resorting to the nuclear constitutional option. Subtle, he isn't: convincing, even less so.
